Landscaping Questions
What landscaping services does Contrex Group offer?
We cover structural landscaping and site preparation, retaining walls, turf installation, garden design and installation, driveway construction, edging, decorative stone and gravel, subsoil drainage, stormwater solutions, water features and landscape supply delivery. Because we also run an earthmoving fleet, the levelling and site prep are handled as part of the same job.
Do you build retaining walls?
Yes. Retaining wall construction is one of our core services, and we also handle retaining wall replacement and removal. We work with concrete sleepers, timber sleepers and sandstone blocks depending on the look, the height and the engineering requirements.
What types of retaining walls do you build?
We build concrete sleeper walls, timber sleeper walls and sandstone block walls. Concrete sleepers suit most structural applications and come in a range of finishes. Timber gives a softer, more natural look. Sandstone blocks work well for feature walls and larger landscape structures. We can talk through which option suits your site and budget.
Do you supply materials as well as install them?
Yes. We deliver sand, soil, roadbase, stone, rock and decorative rock, and we supply structural materials including concrete sleepers and sandstone blocks. You can use us for supply only or for supply and install.
Do you install turf?
Yes. We handle turf installation along with the ground preparation underneath it, which is the part that determines whether turf establishes properly. We can also arrange turf supply.
Can you fix drainage problems in my yard?
Yes. Poor drainage is one of the most common problems we get called about. We install subsoil drainage, ag pipe, yard pits and stormwater solutions, and we can regrade areas that hold water. Because we run excavators and positracks, we can deal with the cause rather than just the symptom.
Do you build gravel driveways?
Yes. We construct gravel driveways and rural crossovers, and we also do driveway maintenance and regrading on existing driveways. Proper base preparation and drainage are what make a gravel driveway last, so we do not skip those steps.
Do I need council approval for a retaining wall?
It depends on the height of the wall, how close it sits to a boundary and whether it is supporting a structure or a surcharge load. In Queensland many walls under one metre do not need approval, but this varies by council and by site. We will let you know if we think your job needs engineering or approval before we start.
Do you handle site preparation and levelling before landscaping?
Yes, and this is where we differ from a lot of landscapers. We run our own earthmoving fleet, so cut and fill, levelling, site clearing and pad preparation are done in house rather than subcontracted out. That usually means a faster job and one point of accountability.
